Red Necked Wallaby

Twice the bounce at Paultons

Spring is in the air and in the step at Paultons as two new youngsters make an appearance at the park.

The baby wallabies were born around two months ago but one of them needed to be fostered after his mother lost interest in him shortly after he was born. Without his mother to look after him the joeys future looked uncertain. Fortunately though he had made friends with another joey of the same age whose mother seemed more than happy to adopt him and the two are now sharing her comfortable pouch.

Wallabies are born after a gestation period after which the single baby climbs into the mother's pouch where it remains for four to six months then weans after ten. Livestock Manager Geoff Masson says that it's "very unusual for a female wallaby to adopt another joey." Keepers will continue to keep a watchful eye on the pair, especially as they get bigger and space may get a bit crowded.

The Red-Necked Wallabies are part of more than 50 attractions at Paultons Park. For a perfect family day out, book your low cost family outing today with Paultons Breaks.
